Mijn kernwaarden? Creativiteit, vrijheid […]
Do you bother about the ongoing influence of new media on society?
You read my blog so…
…I think you must be one of the people who are enrolled to new forms of communication. Am I right?
Or are you not happy with these developments?
If this is the fact you are not the only one, I am sure. Don’t forget that a lot of people are used to ‘old’ media and to the old way all things go. I had a few experiences last time that convinced me of the long way we have to go to hug new developments in (mass) communication. Such as the older acquaintance who is ill and widow. I asked her if her children help her handling her illness. They all live a bit further away. Her answer was that she does not like to telephone with them: ‘they always sen SMS-es. I don’t SMS.’ Or as my own mother who is convinced of the quality of real time eye-to-eye chats with people and of the surplus value of it. I agree. Sometimes it can be pleasant to have a good talk one-to-one. And sometimes it is not possible. Or it is also possible to communicate another way. My parents-in-law are afraid of using the computer, a mobile telephone and of everything that is ‘similar’. I understand. For them everything that’s about the new things in society is new and they are not used to it. And I think it could be useful to follow new development and accept that young people offer new ideas and technologies. Just like they did when they were young.
I attended an event for information on Media Culture
I was in Maastricht at the University for more information about their masters. As a communication scientist very interested in what new development in communication does for society I was and because of my illness (MS) I am very enrolled to do this masters program. Like Mr. Cruyff, the soccer player once said: Every disadvantage has its advantage (he said it in Dutch). I’d love to do research about new media and its influence to all day culture. I have to make a few steps before I can start with it. A nw one year master starts in september. I am sure I still am as enthusiastic about it by that time.
And you know what? I promise to tell you about the media study and research process I go through
